Constance Benson (aka Constance D. Benson) was born with Sickle Cell Disease (Type SS). She was cured of the disease via the Stride-HCT Bone Marrow Transplant. Before Constance was cured of Sickle Cell, she was pursuing a modeling career with Wilhelmina of Conshohocken. The traveling made her disease take over and her health deteriorated very fast. By the grace of God, Constance was cured of Sickle Cell Disease on October 30, 2012. Her younger sister, Samantha was her 100% genetic match.
A discussion with Rod Gunn (from Be The Match) and a panel of guests Debunking Myths related to Sickle Cell Disease. WE ARE THE CURE!
This is a virtual Sickle Cell Awareness event that Mel Mann & I (Constance Benson) co-hosted titled "We Are The Cure for Ava, Imani & Tahir "Stayfresh" Ali - A Sickle Cell Awareness Event" sponsored by Be The Match, We Are The Cure Atlanta & Fresh Cells. The goal of this virtual event was (AND STILL IS) to find a donor for Ava, Tahir and Imani. We also interviewed individuals that donated marrow and/ or stem cells to save a life. We hear what led them to saving a life!
My sister and I had the wonderful opportunity to have an open and genuine conversation with Praise 102.5's KD Bowe on his "Convos From The Crib" show via Instagram Live on June 24, 2020. Check it out!
On Monday, March 9, 2020, I (Constance Benson) had the pleasure of co-hosting with Mia Robinson (filling in for Jennifer Worrell) for the 5th episode of 'Do I Look Sick?', on Manifest TV & hosted by Status Network.
In this episode, we discussed several medications that are currently being used to treat people with Sickle Cell Disease. We also discussed my bone marrow transplant, stem cell transplants and we touched on Dr. Sebi's suggestions for Sickle Cell Disease.
On June 7, 2017, Constance Benson was invited to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to speak at the Sickle Cell Disease & Gene Editing briefing. Her purpose was to put a face to the disease and advocate for continued funding for the treatment and curing of Sickle Cell Disease, to the people who have the power to increase funding and promote the treatment of SCD. Special thanks to Be The Match, Congress, NIH, The American Society of Hematology, The American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy & SCDAA.
I was on a panel at the Stellar Sickle Cell Symposium on October 8, 2016, with four other adults who were cured of Sickle Cell Disease. This clip is of me sharing some of my story with the audience.
The other four individuals on the panel were cured of Sickle Cell Disease via Bone Marrow Transplants. One woman had her BMT 18 months prior to the panel, another had hers 12 months prior to the panel and two of the men had their transplants 17+ years ago.

This was one of the very first interviews that I did. I was nervous. (I still get nervous).
Yvette Pegues was an absolute professional and I would love to do this again!
